Common Dental Implant Questions
Posted by clburke
Patients considering dental implants know they are making an investment in their teeth that could well be permanent. That’s why they often have questions before they make a final decision. As your dentist, Dr. Walden has put together a collection of the most common questions from patients. That way, you can get some of your answers before you even come in for a consultation.
Who Is a Candidate for Implants?
Implants require jawbone tissue for anchoring and gum tissue to support their stability, so patients who have lost a lot of either prove challenging. Over the years, a number of processes have been invented to graft tissue into place so more and more patients qualify for placement. That means if you were not a candidate a few years ago, you might be now.
How Often Do Implants Need To Be Replaced?
In most cases, dental implants are a permanent solution. They only need replacement if they are damaged or if there is a serious complication, and the latter is quite rare due to the process for screening candidates. This means as long as you don’t get hurt in a way that traumatizes your mouth, you should never need to replace your implants. Even if one or two of the porcelain replacement teeth do get damaged, they are easy for a dentist to change out and the anchors are usually sound.
How Much do Implants Cost?
That’s not an easy question to answer for anyone. The fact is, basic costs for implants are comparable to many other options when insurance covers them. When it’s not the case, it’s important to remember that dentures and bridges need replacement and implants usually don’t. It also varies depending on what additional procedures are needed for bone and tissue grafts. Only an individual consultation can tell you.
